3 facts that might make you wonder why all children aren’t already wearing a Forcefield® headband whenever there’s a risk of a fall, trip or tumble:
3 minutes
In Canada, a concussion happens every 3 minutes.
60,000 children
Health Canada estimates up to 60,000 Canadian children and youth sustain a serious, quality of life altering, preventable head injury each year.
** $2,000,000,000 a year
Preventable head injuries are a multi-billion dollar problem.
We spend $2,000,000,000 to treat and support Canadians sustaining a head injury each year.
Head injuries among infants, toddlers and young children due to falls can cause temporary, TBI, superficial or more serious brain injury.
Too many hospitalizations due to head injury for ages 2-4
Since establishing the database in 1990, CHIRPP has reported millions of hospitalizations due to injury among infants, toddlers and young children. As a result, our children's play spaces, equipment and sports are safer.
Through to 2007, thousands of head injuries were reported from: railing and bannisters (falling through, off or into), infant swings, baby walkers, baby gates, playground equipment, day care settings, furniture.
Baby walkers have been banned. Improvements have been made to playground equipment and groundcover as well as the manufacture of consumer products. Laws have changed to widen the scope of helmets in snow sports. Rules have changed for checking and headers.
There remains a risk falling down or colliding with other children and hard objects, furnature, doors, floors, ground, toys and stairs.
There are only a few, critical months, while your toddler learns balance.
Canadians are concerned

Is Headgear the Solution?
Forcefield Protective Headgear™ can be a part of your safety plan; only part of the plan. Headgear does not make it safe to play fearlessly.
Headgear does reduce the impact forces reaching your head and your brain.
While you're learning how keep your body safe, especially when you fall, protecting your head is not always second nature. Young children's heads are disproportionately larger than their bodies and topheavy so they lead with their heads in a fall. Helmets are already standard equipment in cycling and Canskate up to level 5, but helmets are not appropriate in all situations. Protecting your head is still, and always important. While learning to walk, traveling in a stroller, on the monkey bars, swings and slides, playing pre-school soccer. So, for all those other non-helmeted sports and leisure activities, you can wear Forcefield Protective Headgear™.
It's a big responsibility. What steps are you taking to prevent your child from head injuries?

what they're saying about Forcefield®
“It is in my opinion a very urgent matter and they really work.”
“At each stage of my daughter’s development, I’m able to add protection she wants to wear.”
Marilyn B., Ottawa ON
“My sons and I think headbands under our toques make our paper route ‘complete the street’ competitions less risky on icy winter afternoons.”
Manny B., Winnipeg MB
“Care should always be taken to avoid any brain trauma and to minimize the risk of a greater injury. Early injury detection plays a key role. Taking preventative measures, like wearing headgear, is also important.”
Harry Zarins, Executive Director 2008-2016, Brain Injury Canada
“I see concussions on a frequent basis. Occasionally I have patients with post concussive symptoms that last over a year, preventing them from going to school and participating in any activities. It’s a huge problem and anything to prevent head injury is welcome. Not only reducing impact, this Forcefield headband can prevent hematomas and lacerations and scrapes, all good to reduce head injuries. I am glad to help spread the word.”
Dr. Jeff Weisbrot, MD, FRCP(C), Pediatric Emergency Medicine, Behavioral Counseling Medical Education Specialist. Pediatrician. Director of Medical Education, MacKenzie Health. Past Chief of Pediatrics York Central Hospital and Staff Physician, The Hospital for Sick Children. Child care author.
“Helmets and headbands do not prevent concussions. Their cushioning effect reduces the degree of kinetic energy directed to the head and the brain; an extra layer of protection from a glancing blow.”
Dr. Brian Hunt, Canadian Neurosurgeon, Concussion Education and Awareness Committee Expert, ThinkFirst BC co-Founder
“Our protective headgear significantly reduces the severity of the impact and nothing more.”
Inventor, Dr. C.J. Abraham, P.E., CPC, CChE, FRSC, LFAIC, D EE, IH, FTI, MS, PhD, JD
